Working from home online – how to combine household duties with earning through affiliate marketing

Working from home online through affiliate marketing means earning money by recommending products. Publishers recommend products they choose and, in addition to fair compensation, gain the opportunity to work from home and from anywhere in the world.

The biggest advantages of working from home online through affiliate marketing are:

  • you can start earning at any stage, without having a blog or a high-traffic website

  • to earn, all you need is a social media account

  • zero barrier to entry—the only thing you need to invest is your time

  • you decide which affiliate programs you join

  • you decide which products you recommend

We invite you to a knowledge “pill” about earning money online as an affiliate publisher, as well as an interview with Mama w domu, Sylwia Błaszczak. Sylwia proves that working online is possible!

Working online – affiliate programs

In the simplest terms, affiliate marketing is earning money by recommending products through participation in affiliate programs. It works like this: a publisher joins an advertiser’s affiliate program and earns a commission on sales of products promoted online from the advertiser’s offer. The advertiser also earns, because they sell more thanks to the publisher’s recommendations. The process also involves an affiliate network, such as webePartners, which enables cooperation between publishers and advertisers. The last—but not least important—link in the whole process is, of course, the internet user who makes purchases from the advertiser based on the publisher’s recommendation.

You might think this group is at a disadvantage because they don’t earn anything, but that’s a mistaken assumption. Users have the opportunity to buy something recommended by someone they trust—often with a discount code that the advertiser generated specifically for that publisher’s audience.

Working online – you recommend and earn

Working online in cooperation with an affiliate network is not a complicated process. A publisher recommends products made available by advertisers (online stores) as part of their affiliate programs. These can be cosmetics, clothing, cycling equipment, furniture, home accessories, services… basically anything that can be sold online. Everything happens entirely on the internet.

The first step to start earning is registering with an affiliate network as a publisher. Then you can join selected affiliate programs available within the network and start recommending the products that a given advertiser offers in their online store. In webePartners, the product database available for recommendations already includes over 3 million items! So everyone will certainly find products they want to recommend to their audience.

It’s worth noting that it’s very important to choose programs that truly match the topics you deal with on a daily basis.

You don’t need to have an extensive website packed with various technological solutions to earn money from affiliate marketing. There are two tools that make it possible to work from home online as a publisher, even with a simple blog or a social media profile.

Working online – affiliate links are the foundation

Why do bloggers and social media users love affiliate links?

Affiliate links are active URLs which, after being processed in an affiliate system, record the number of clicks and the number of actions (sales in an online store, filling out a form or survey, registering in a system, signing up for a newsletter, using a promotion, and others) and calculate the commission due for them. Affiliate links can be woven into text on websites and in social media, attached to graphics, sent via email and messengers, added to Instagram Stories, etc. It all depends on you and your creativity. Affiliate marketing is a very natural way of promotion, which is why it’s easy to place links without giving the impression that your entire text is an advertisement.

On the Sandicious blog, you can find a post about a water-filtering jug. Despite the passage of time, the topic is still relevant, because using tap water is becoming a great alternative to bottled water, which generates tons of plastic. The blogger describes a specific model and, by adding a link to it, makes it easier for readers to buy it if they decide they want it.

On the OneLittleSmile blog, affiliate links to various apps or platforms that make it easier to take the first steps in building a business would work perfectly. People who want to follow the blogger’s tips can be easily redirected to a page where they can register and access a full range of tools.

Working online – widgets as attractive ad creatives

Widgets (product widgets) – an earning tool. What are they and how do you create them?

For a blog and other websites, you can use widgets. Product widgets have been very well adopted in affiliate marketing. Widgets are aesthetic ad creatives that present selected products in a tile-style layout, including their photos, names, and prices—along with automatically assigned affiliate links to those products. Product widgets are created by publishers in a widget generator after joining affiliate programs. Widgets can be horizontal or vertical and, most importantly, they are responsive. This means they automatically adjust their size to the devices on which they are displayed.

Product widgets can be visually tailored to match your website or blog—you can edit the background color, borders, and the appearance of the description and price. A single widget can feature products from one advertiser or from multiple advertisers. They work perfectly on blogs and niche websites.

Working online – reliability and credibility are the foundation

What does it mean that it’s worth choosing programs that match the topic you focus on? If you run a blog or an Instagram profile with parenting content, choose, for example, stores selling strollers or toys for toddlers. If your niche is beauty, look toward beauty salons or cosmetics stores. If, for instance, you’re a hair professional, it won’t be very credible if you suddenly start recommending cookware. You can completely lose your credibility this way, and in your audience’s eyes you’ll become just an advertising machine rather than a source of recommendations worth following.

Of course, it’s not that you must stick extremely strictly to your niche, but it is necessary to choose programs that truly fit what has been shown on your profiles so far. Lifestyle blogs often turn out to be a trap here. The range of products that can fit such a topic is genuinely broad, and sometimes bloggers choose too many random options, making their content lose coherence. The most important thing is that the products you recommend match the content you create every day and—above all—address the needs of the people who visit you. Also remember to recommend products you genuinely consider worth recommending. Only then will your community benefit from your recommendations and see you as a credible source of opinions.

Outfit posts on blogs are a great way to use the potential of affiliate links. This type of content works very similarly to shopping guides, which are always highly popular with readers. In the fashion blogger’s post on Ubieraj Się Klasycznie, readers will find specific ideas on how to match different wardrobe elements. This format is ideal for using affiliate links, which can be attached to the store name, brand, or the name of a specific product mentioned next to a graphic or photo.

A thorough review that describes the pros and cons of a product is always a good idea for a post, and affiliate links are a natural complement. Remember to make it as objective as possible—then you’ll build trust, which will translate into better results! Piggypeg are bloggers well known to people interested in cosmetics and beauty. In their posts, the girls test selected products, and thanks to affiliate links, any interested reader can immediately purchase the reviewed product.

Working online – do you really need a large community?

Working from home online with the help of affiliate marketing does not require having a large community. In fact, you can direct your recommendations only to your friends who might want to use them. It’s worth noting, however, that the larger the community you build—and the more trust you earn—the higher the income you will generate. Marketing specialists have been saying for years that the most important thing not only in online businesses but also offline is building relationships with other people. In affiliate marketing, the community that visits your profile or blog needs to trust you. Only then will they be willing to use the recommendations you share.

Working online – payment models

Working from home online is the same kind of work as any other, so you deserve to be paid for it. Affiliate settlement is based on two primary models: CPS (Cost Per Sale) and CPL (Cost Per Lead).

CPS – Cost Per Sale (commission on a sale)

CPS is the most commonly used model in affiliate marketing for e-commerce, because it represents a reasonable balance of benefits for publishers and advertisers. In this case, the commission is credited when a purchase is made in the advertiser’s store. Therefore, advertisers take virtually no risk, because they pay only for the results of promotional campaigns run by publishers. For publishers, the CPS model is also attractive, because by recommending products that are well matched to their audience, they achieve high sales conversion. This means that a small number of clicks and visits to the advertiser’s store can result in purchases of specific products and the calculation of the commission due.

CPL – Cost Per Lead (a fee for delivering a specific action)

The CPL model—cost per lead—works differently than CPS. Here, the advertiser does not pay a commission on a sale, but a fixed fee for completing a specific action (a lead), which is precisely defined in the affiliate program terms. These actions can vary widely: filling out a form on a website, registering for a service, subscribing to a newsletter, or downloading a PDF. This model is most often used in the sale of various services. It’s used by financial or insurance institutions, websites offering online games, training, or courses.

Working online – is a blog enough?

As is widely known, today working online is possible in many different ways. The spaces where affiliate marketing operates are also diverse. The place where you share your recommendations can be websites, social platforms, product search engines, or price comparison sites. However, for people who—like the protagonist of our article—simply want to earn online while combining working from home with other responsibilities (e.g., motherhood), the most commonly chosen option is blogging plus being active on social media.

Working online through the eyes of Sylwia Błaszczak

Once you already know what affiliate marketing is and how it can help you work online, we invite you to read the interview we conducted with Sylwia Błaszczak. As a child, she dreamed of becoming “Mrs. Crayon,” making plasticine characters for children’s TV programs. Instead, she earned a degree from a university of technology and became Mama w domu—a blogger who shares ideas for creative decorations, spending time with children, and shows that working from home online is possible. She told us what parenting looks like for her and where she gets inspiration for her at-home experiments.

Autorka bloga Mama w domu pokazuje, że praca w domu przez internet jest możliwa

Anna Biernacka: You love integrals and statistics. What made working from home online become your main occupation?

Sylwia Błaszczak: Of course—the kids! Starting the blog was really an impulse. We moved outside the city. I spent entire days at home with the children. The weather didn’t encourage going for walks. I had to keep both them and myself busy. I looked for ideas for games and arts-and-crafts activities online. And then I thought that I could share my own ideas as well. That’s how the blog appeared, and more and more people started visiting it and leaving comments. And I—rather than calculating mathematical formulas or explaining to clients how internet telephony works—started making things out of modeling clay and finger-painting together with my children. Most importantly, I really grew to love both creating and writing. I never went back to my previous job. I became a parenting blogger, and this is my full-time work-from-home job online. I do what I enjoy, and at the same time I have a lot of time for my children.

You’re the mom of two boys, which strongly influences the topics on your blog. What surprised you most about motherhood?

It would be easier to say what didn’t surprise me 🙂 I was surprised that I—someone who has always loved sleeping—can function perfectly well even when I sleep much less than usual. I was surprised that despite buying a whole pile of colorful, functional toys, my children had the most fun with a plastic bottle or a pot and a wooden spoon. I was also surprised that the laundry basket has no bottom. No matter when I look, there’s always something in it, and with kids the laundry never ends. And what surprised me most was seeing the world through a child’s eyes—stopping to peek at how a caterpillar behaves, looking for a four-leaf clover in a meadow, or watching a soap bubble drift away. It turns out that despite being in a hurry, you can find time for that. And it’s even worth it, because it’s a wonderful feeling.

Working from home online by running such an inventive blog deserves recognition. Your pages are filled with creative DIY inspiration—from gifts, to decorations, to handmade board games. So I have to ask: where do you get all these ideas?

I open the cabinet with my “might-come-in-handy” stuff—tissue paper, modeling clay, craft wire, and so on—and I think about what I could use. Sometimes, before throwing away a box or a corn tin, I wonder what I could make out of it. And when I have absolutely no idea, I look for inspiration on Pinterest or in Facebook groups—they’re a real treasure trove of creative projects!

I can see the passion for what you do in your posts. Working from home has allowed you to combine pleasure with responsibilities. And that brings us to working online—how do you monetize your blogging activity?

Making money from a blog is often a topic readers don’t like. But let’s be honest—without paid collaborations, I wouldn’t be able to devote so much time to running the blog. I don’t work with every advertiser who approaches me. I have my own rules that no amount of money can break. On my blog you won’t find, for example, any ads for medicines or supplements. I also don’t feature products I don’t use. I don’t lie to my readers. I show only what I truly consider noteworthy and worth recommending. I use affiliate marketing and paid ads that are displayed in the side menu or under videos.

What advice would you give to beginner bloggers?

So they don’t lose their passion! That’s probably the most important thing. When you don’t put your heart into what you do, it stops being enjoyable and loses its meaning. My next piece of advice is: don’t give up and write regularly! And if you have any questions, feel free to write to me—I’ll try to help 😉

What have you learned thanks to blogging and remote work?

Blogging is constant growth. You can’t stand still. I’ve learned to organize my time better, because working from home online requires it of me. My greatest pride is my photos. Maybe they’re not perfect yet, but when I compare my current ones to those that appeared on the blog a few years ago, I can see huge progress. If it weren’t for blogging, I wouldn’t take so many photos, I wouldn’t keep improving my skills, and I wouldn’t look for ways to make them better and better.

Besides your blog, you’re also active on social media—you run a Facebook page, you have a YouTube channel, and an Instagram profile. Isn’t that kind of work from home (online) too absorbing? How do you combine all these communities into one whole—do you have a strategy?

That’s actually one of the things I learned thanks to blogging—time management, and also planning posts across all channels. I don’t have any special strategy, except one. At least once a week I sit down with a calendar in my hand and write down roughly when and where I’ll publish a new post, and then I try to stick to it. Although sometimes I act spontaneously—when I feel like it or I have a thought I want to share with my readers, I publish a post right away.

Praca w domu przez internet jest możliwa nawet dla mamy z dziećmi

Of all the creative things you’ve made on your blog so far—do you have a favorite that you’d recommend as a great, proven idea for everyone?

I don’t have one single favorite. I remember each one fondly, but if you asked me, for example, about a quick, simple activity for kids, I’d recommend making a non-Newtonian fluid from water and potato starch, or doing a few experiments with eggs 🙂

In most of your photos you appear together with your sons—how do they feel about their online popularity?

They don’t feel popular. They treat it like fun. Classmates tell them they saw them in a video. Krzyś and Damian like taking part in the activities and recording videos. They like appearing in photos, but—as they emphasize—“only the funny ones.” They often suggest ideas for photos or interesting experiments themselves. It’s also thanks to them that I learned working from home online can be effective. I’m happy because while fulfilling myself professionally, I’m also present in my sons’ everyday lives.

What are your future plans for Mamawdomu?

At the moment, I try to live in the here and now! I don’t have far-reaching plans. New posts will certainly keep appearing. I’m going to try to focus more on my YouTube channel. If things go well, my first book with ideas for activities with children will come out later this year. Beyond that, I don’t know—time will tell 🙂

Thank you for all your answers. You’ve shown our readers that working from home online—especially for young mothers—is a good solution. Spending time and attention with preschool- and school-age children is truly important in shaping their character. It was a pleasure talking with you.
